Car vs. Building in Kernersville

Residents of Lindsey Manor Apartment Complex in Kernersville, NC got a jolt on Saturday morning, November 1, 2008, when a Honda Accord driven by Peggy Hicks crashed into the front door of apartment B of building 474.

Peggy says she was coming to visit friends that lived in the apartments and when pulling into a parking spot stepped on the gas instead of the brake.

Peggy’s car crashed though a brick support column which held up the second floor’s front porch, sending the column back over the roof of her car, smashing it in.

Residents in the apartment just above the accident had to be evacuated out their back door down a ladder with the help of Kernersville fire fighters.

There were no personal injuries.  The extent of the damage caused to the structure is unknown as of Saturday afternoon.  (Brandon Warren/ News-Record)
