Strange Donations

A handful of some of the strangest donations that have been given to the Salvation Army on S. Eugene St. through store front kettles in Greensboro, NC on Friday, December 05, 2008. Tokes, foreign currencies, as well as bills folded in artistic ways were found among washers, nails and screws, as well as a lot of pocket lent is found every day among the donations to the Salvation Army. *all names cq* (Brandon Warren/ News-Record)

Van-B-Q

A van carrying medical waste caught fire around 10:25 pm at 1005 S. Main St. in Kernersville, NC on Wednesday, December 03, 2008. The driver of the van was unable to be located, but a passenger of the van was still on scene when emergency crews arrived. The fire occurred at the CITGO gas station, which had to be shut down for about an hour. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames that had quickly engulfed the entire vehicle.

Chess

Two guys play chess every Saturday at Friends Home in Greensboro, N.C. They have a book of professional chess games transcribed move for move which they recreate to learn the game even better.

Seagrove Pottery Festivals

The year 2008 was the first year that there were two pottery festivals in Seagrove, N.C. The Celebration of Seagrove Potters (new festival) was started after a disagreement between individuals in the original Seagrove Pottery Festival. Potters were worried that this “split” would ultimately hurt everyone, but judging on every customer I talked with, they wanted to check out both festivals. Quite honestly, if there was only one festival, I think it would have been way over crowded, and a miserable environment for browsing the beautiful craftsmanship.
